The Late Late Midseason post

Urk, well its actually episode 9 territory right now, so my usual midseason post is…uh…two weeks late. Dang!

Oh well, you can put it down to either laziness or negligence if you want. Both are probably applicable, LOL.

Regardless, I’ll put one up anyways. Perhaps it’ll help you in picking up something you may have missed, perhaps?

The current inhabitants of my slots are:

Nyan Koi!

Akari is actually pretty disturbing…LOL

Well, its definately a Harem Comedy. However, it has continued to impress me and make me laugh, and evidently takes a cue from things such as Akane Iro Somaru Saka since it manages to cover all of the cliches in a refreshing way. And,  it does have a unique distinction: the main protagonist, Junpei, is definately 100% focused on Kaede, despite all the other girls pining for his attention, which is a rare and positive quality in the hero of an anime like this. I know I’ve said it a thousand times, but good, strong male leads REALLY make a good Harem Anime. They are the foundation on which the love polygon is built, after all, so if they’re an idiotic pervert/loser, the whole concept collapses unless you assume each girl is retarded. This even manages to have a good underlying subplot with the cats, too, though, adding to its quality.

Anyway, its going well, and assuming they don’t go for a undecided finish, it’ll probably be quite satifying.

A Certain Scientific Railgun

Kuroko finally got to show off a bit in this last episode, by telefragging a building using its OWN panes of glass. No really. ROFL.

Hmm, this floundered around a little bit to begin with (that is to say, around episode 2 and 3 was…odd), but pulled itself out of the mire and eventually got its act together with some plot. Unlike alot of people, I actually enjoyed Touma and his righteousness in Index (but then I see an ideal of myself in such characters, since I’m also a stubborn optimist).

Nevertheless, its surprising to hear how many people suddenly like his character now in this compared to before based on his interactions (i.e. fights) with Mikoto. The highlight of these was her creation of a frickin’ Chain Sword by magnetising iron filings in the sand around her. LOL. Nevertheless, the Imagine Breaker always beats her best efforts.

On other topics, Uiharu and Saten, the new girls still haven’t really shown their colours, leaving most of the smackdown to Mikoto and Kuroko whilst offering a primarily support role. Not that this is neccessarily bad, but I’m itching to see what their actual ESPer abilities are. We can assume Uiharu does something with growth or flowers, but Saten is pretty mysterious as another proper level zero. (However, the level upper plotline is building to a climax which may well show us something, I’d assume, even if I want to slap Saten for her stupidity in accepting the bait).

Kuroko… well I’d don’t know what to say about her. Her perversion regarding Mikoto just crosses so far over the line it goes right through disturbing and returns to being funny, I guess. Especially the whole headdesk incident at the resturant.

Letter Bee

Niche’s Sword Hair is awesome! Don’t mess with the MakaLoli!

I had some reservations about this to begin with since Lag’s incessant crying can and will grate even the most patient of observers. However, I guess, at some point, I just stopped noticing the tears and realised that actually, the plot on this is pretty meaty. I guess Niche’s introduction as inevitable inaugation as Lag’s ‘Dingo’ also helped tremendously, since she is such a simple minded but fascinating character.

I now get the feeling that Lag is actually a very strong character too. It may not fit the pre-concieved notion of being ‘manly’, but his ability to cry about stuff and move on without much hesitation in his stride is actually very admirable. He’s also demonstated that he can be a prodigy in the Tegami Bachi world too, able to shoot Shindan from his arms (not needing a gun like others) and realise what others need to attain closure.

This is also definately set up for the long haul (i.e. 26 episodes), which is nice. I hope it’ll continue to entertain me.

Kimi No Todoke

When Sawako forces a smile…something just doesn’t quite work, eh?

As noted before, I decided to drop 11 eyes in favour of this. And…I’m very glad I did.

Its just…well… I can’t find fault at all in it. Perfect comedic timing, just enough angst, an adorable (if dense) female lead, a strong (if selfish) male lead, excellent use of chibification to enhance scenes, and an amusing supporting cast. Its got everything one needs in a proper romantic comedy and since I’m a sucker for such things, I’m literally hoovering up every second of it.

I realise such things are hardly everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’d like a fine example of romance, look no further.

Fairy Tail

Scary Natsu is scary. Or something.

Interesting and exciting. Two terms that perfectly encapsulate what Fairy Tail is. In the same way that Kimi no Todoke can get me all swooning and fuzzy every time, I can barely watch ten minutes of this and NOT be grinning inanely from ear to ear like a hyper little boy. It may not dig deep, but it hits hard and you feel every punch.

One thing that is interesting to note is that you can almost ’see’ the manga chapters behind this. There are very obvious mini-arcs and they don’t attempt to illustrate parts that the manga didn’t (with the whole ‘and then…’ moments), presumably to keep the show moving and action thick and fast. It works quite well, it has to be said, though it would be nice if they let you pause to catch you breath more often!

My only concern is Natsu’s propensity for overusing his small handful of FMV attacks. He really needs a bigger repotoire or more moments like the one from the most recent episode where he grabs onto a railbridge with a flaming hand.

Seiken no Blacksmith

Yes, at last, you realised your obvious character flaw, Cecily!

Somewhat like Letter Bee, this started with very little momentum. I was considering dropping it, in fact, because it was getting pretty retarded. Then, in a similar fashion to the aformentioned, it all started to click into place around episode 4. Aria appears, Cecily shouts her title less and stops getting beaten up as much, Luke being a jerk takes up less of an episode, Lisa gets some marginal development, etc.

Its never really gotten over some of its comical flaws, but I appreciate its courage in not even attempting to lampshade or handwave them away. And the above screenshot made me far more satisfied on whole with Cecily, too. Now, if only Luke will do something similar. He’s just an eyesore in my opinion at the moment, unfortunately, and we don’t even know why.

Book of Bantorra

Enlike brings new meanings to ‘Thunder Palm’. Or something.

I can’t actually ascertain why I’m still not pissed off with Bantorra. I somehow get the feeling that…well…its out of control whilst knowing exactly where its going, if that makes any sense.

I watch each episode in a vague sense of confusion, after all. Its like the anime version of the movie Memento…fragmented all over the place with only the viewer able to properly pick up the pieces. Something which is difficult given that it has no real appreciation for the 4th dimension, and from my perspective it felt a little like the first arc concluded too much in a rush only for it to crash headlong into the second.

So…I don’t know. I feel like I enjoy it, but it confuses me. It may well be that at the end, some amazing revelation will occur and everything will suddenly make sense and this will be the anime of season, or it may well be that it just ends up being a confusing pile of junk. Until we find out, I’m strangely interested, and at the very least its pretty. Yeah.

And there you go, midseason special over. Thats all for now, hope you had an enjoyable read and all that. I might be doing another Visual Novel Diary soon of Syarin no Kuji: Himiwari no Shoujo, which I just started playing on the side, so stay tuned, eh?

Nodame Cantabile OVA

As you already know, Nodame Cantabile manga had ended on October 10th, 2009 and, in my opinion, the ending is fairly good although it still have some things hanging around, i.e. Nodame’s dream to have a concert with Chiaki (although Chiaki said it, the scenes of the concert weren’t being drawn), etc. Another opinion, I think the last book of Nodame Cantabile will be the thinest among the others. I really hope Ninomiya sensei could add some extra side stories in the last book when it comes out.

Another thing… Maybe some of you already know that Nodame Cantabile anime had an OVA (original video animation) and it was released on 10th August 2009, along with Nodame Cantabile manga volume 22. This OVA had scenery similar to Nodame Cantabile: Pari-hen. Same style for background image/scenery. So, how’s the story? Here’s the synopsis :)

The story began with Matsuda Yukihisa walking in Paris airport, very similar to the beginning of the first episode of Nodame Cantabile: Pari-hen. He also was conducting Recyl Orchestra and M Orchestra and he felt that his life is just as perfect as a well planning. After the concert, the orchestra members gathered around in a cafe and they were talking about the Marlet Orchestra new conductor, that’s Chiaki. Later, they praised Chiaki because of his first position in Platini Competition and the fact that he also the only pupil of Franz von Stressemann.

But Matsuda appeared and talked to the orchestra member that he also a number one and he was studied under Kurosawa, not to be mistaken with the name of the film director :D funny part :D Well, later the orchestra member said they weren’t comparing him with Chiaki. But Matsuda said to them that even Jean Donnadieu from De Champs Orchestra insignificant in his presence. Then he went out of the cafe.

While walking in the street town, he murmured about the Paris orchestra which in fact to him was too many (he said there were 4 orchestras called “national orchestras”). He also murmured that every year the financing getting lower and lower because of that too many orchestras and he wished that Roux Marlet and De Champs would disappear soon. Later he also pissed off because of Chiaki became the principal of Roux Marlet Orchestra in such a young age (and in fact, younger than him).

After the murmuring, still on the street side, her girlfriend, Mai, called him from Tokyo. He thought that her girlfriend already missed him so much but he was wrong :D Her girlfriend just want him buy a macaron and a perfume. He replied her that he can’t do it because he was in the way to go to the orchestra. Then she insisted to buy it tomorrow when he didn’t have any activities. After he heard that, he felt angry because no support for him at all.

Then the scene continue to the Recyl Symphony performancing Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture where Matsuda as the conductor. Chiaki and Kuroki saw the performance and they both agreed that Tannhäuser Overture perfectly fit for Matsuda personality. After the performance, Caroline, a ballerina, said to Matsuda that was her last visit. But Matsuda thought her as his girlfriend and thought her wanted to break up the relationship. Bad news for Matsuda, she wanted to clear out their relationship and she never ever thought that she had a boyfriend (that is Matsuda) though she liked him. So Matsuda was dumped. He murmured again complaining that was not his “future diary” :D It supposed to be good in Matsuda’s thought.

Later, Chiaki and Kuroki showed up and I think both of them were at there for a quite time allowing them to hear long enough the conversation between Matsuda and Caroline. Chiaki said the Elizabeth fled, laughing at Matsuda’s back. But Matsuda said the opposite, that wasn’t his Elizabeth and later he asked them for drinking. Fastly enough, Kuroki was escaping, said that he wanted prepare his reeds that night. Chiaki also tried to escape Matsuda’s invitation but unfortunately he failed. Matsuda said he wanted to share the secret of success to him.

So, Chiaki and Matsuda now at the bar. Matsuda showed to Chiaki her Elizabeth, that is Mai (the one who called him before) and brag about her being rich and his soon-to-be father in law fanciness of him. In his mind, Matsuda imagined the “future diary” he wants with her :D that Matsuda really-really imaginative person.

Chiaki then remind him about the idea Matsuda had before (that is, “the secret of success”). But Matsuda reject him and said to him whether he remembered or not the day after the performance of the Rising Star Orchestra. Matsuda said the liquid cheesecake from that time actually unexpectedly delicious. Chiaki then asked him again about the secret of success he wanted to talk about. But Matsuda was escaping, said why he wanted to do that :D poor Chiaki.

Then Matsuda said, why Chiaki didn’t introduce him with Stressman since he was his pupil or to Chiaki’s father. Chiaki said that’s aside. Chiaki asked him how the Rising Star Orchestra was. Matsuda told him his experience with the orchestra members, especially the passionate-looking of the concert master, that is Takahashi :D I think he didn’t know that Takahashi is gay. Then he bragged himself to be more mature than Chiaki.

Later, Matsuda asked Chiaki what his girlfriend like, how big her breast is, etc. Chiaki feel annoyed with the conversation asked to leave. Then Matsuda tried to change the topic… which is no other else… he wanted to talked about French women :D so similar with Stressman.

The scene continue with Chiaki peeping his room, tried to confirm that there were no Nodame inside. Matsuda murmured again that he wanted to take a pee. Then Chiaki let him use his bathroom. Matsuda without hesitation run to the bathroom and release his natural call. Here’s the comedy part… he didn’t know that Nodame taking bath there and she looked at his p**is, targeting like a sniper :D Matsuda then asked Nodame to come out from her bath tub so he could see hers too but Nodame, of course, wouldn’t. Then they play with the water of the bath tub, trying to defense and offense (just like a tug of war).

Later Chiaki came in and release their fighting. After Nodame and Matsuda at outside, they were argumenting again how Nodame was a weirdo, not normal girl, etc and how Matsuda was a pervert, the unusual way he took a pee, etc. Chiaki who knew the situation and murmured that he will just get the crap a.k.a. the dirty room for his apartment, tried to take Nodame out of his room. But before it happened, Matsuda realise that it was his apartment and how big it is. Later Nodame explained to him that was only Chiaki who have such a big apartment. She also bragged about her being Chiaki’s wife, etc :D Then Nodame kicked out by Chiaki.

Chiaki then told Matsuda about his no other option for choosing girlfriend and Matsuda laughing at him. A moment later, Mai called Matsuda and asked him insistly to conduct the Fifteen Boys Band. Matsuda later got angry and hanged her call up. Chiaki then asked him to go out of his apartment.

Matsuda later walked alone and a moment later called Caroline. But sadly, Caroline hanged up the telephone. He then realised there were someone following him, that is Takahashi. Then Takahashi, as I expected, tried to convinced him for drinking and sharing stories, and of course, all of it in Matsuda’s room. Matsuda who just have being dumped again by Caroline, without any further thought, accept it (he thought, maybe it’s good to guide a young person who have passion to music like Takahashi).

The scene continue with Mine, Matsumi, and Sagojo in Uraken. Sagojo ordered a hamburger and Mine took it. But later, Mine realised that his father recipe book wasn’t there. Matsumi then pointed out to a notebook on the table. Mine said it seemed not the one. Later the three of them read it and realised that the notebook actually was Matsuda’s diary. Later Matsuda called Uraken and Mine answered it. From the telephone Mine heard strange voice of Takahashi and later he knew that Matsuda being “executed” by Takahashi :D

And that’s all for this episode.

Ranma Begins - Remake Ranma! Part 1

Dead dudes in Japan that determine what crap gets turned into anime,

Please remake Ranma 1/2.

Ranma 1/2 is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. I would place it along side the likes of Seinfeld, Mary Tyler Moore, Monty Python, and whatever other 30 minute TV comedies one would list as “the best.” The series takes a “high concept,” guy turns into a girl when splashed with cold water, and then does what all great sitcoms do: throw the characters into various situations and let the comedy come naturally. This is the hallmark of a great situational comedy, the fact that the humor grows out of the characters and their interactions when some sort of plot element is introduced. If the characters and well-conceived, regardless of what that situation may be, something amusing will arise and entertain the audience. The “what” of the situation is irrelevant so long as the “funny” is working. Ranma does this masterfully.

“What the hell, are you an idiot?! If Ranma is so great what the fuck has possessed you to want to see it remade?! Don’t you know that remakes always suck?! ALWAYS!”

I’m sure you’re thinking some iteration of the above sentence right now. It’s an understandable reaction, but it’s also pretty short-sighted. What makes remakes suck isn’t the fact that they’re remakes. What make them suck is that they’re usually made for the wrong reasons. More often than not, a movie is remade as a cash grab. Nothing wrong with capitalism, but “cash grab” usually implies that said projects are rushed out the door with little thought given to the products quality. Also, said remakes are usually made by people who don’t “get” the original source material, and therefore resulting in a final product that feels nothing like the original media. That’s why remakes suck. So, in order to avoid the remake suckage curse, a certain amount of familiarity is required. Also, despite this familiarity, one must be willing to deviate from the source material.

“WHAT?! Are you daft?! Don’t you know that when you don’t follow the original manga/book/whatever, you always end up with something that sucks even more than those suck remakes?! ALWAYS!”

Again, an understandable conclusion. Again, it is also short-sighted.

I for one do not understand the need to recreate a manga’s storyline word-for-word when creating an anime adaptation. The very notion of “sticking to the script” defies te concept of an “adaptation.” I want to see the animation staff take a concept from a manga, stick to the original’s tone and themes, and do something new with it. Case in point: Ghost in the Shell SAC. The TV series shares the same characters and themes as the original manga and movies, but entirely new stories were created. I’d argue that The Laughing Man storyline is superior to, say, The Puppet Master storyline from the first movie. That is the perfect example of what I want to see in an anime adaptation or remake. I want to see the original characters and concepts utilized in a new and distinct manner.

And that brings us to Ranma 1/2’s theoretical remake.

The tone of the original series needs to be maintained. There’s no need to “update” the series. No need to add moments where Akane and Ranma act like two dating-sim characters that can’t show their feelings to one another. Their antagonistic relationship must be maintained. At the same time, the series should make a serious attempt to further their relationship. The original manga ended with references to the idea that they probably settle down in the end and get married. This should be something that this fictional remake works towards. The series should do it’s best to avoid the harem/romance tropes that we see in most “romantic comedy” series from the past 10 years or so, but there should be a running subplot showing that these two characters grow to like each other despite being forced into an arranged relationship.

At the same time, there needs to be serious rivals for both Ranma and Akane’s affections. In the original series, most of Ranma’s would-be-girlfriends never really had a chance. Shampoo was misguided and overtly, comically aggressive. Kodachi was a down-and-out stalker. Ukyo came the closest to being a normal “choice,” but Ranma always saw her as his best friend rather than a serious romantic interest. If Ranma 1/2 were to be remade, it should take a cue from one of Rumiko Takahashi’s other series: Maison Ikkoku. In Maison Ikkoku, both Godai and Kyoko had genuine competitors for their affections. While it was obvious from a meta perspective that Godai and Kyoko would end up together, there were times in the plot when they weren’t an “item” and that they were engaged in serious relationships. Ranma and Akane need romantic “foils” in order for their relationship to have that extra “oomph.”

I’d take the more “normal” of Ranma’s suitors, Ukyo, and develop a romantic angle for their friendship. That seems like the most natural pairing. As for Akane, the only existing character that really works is Ryouga. She clearly looks at him as someone she cares about, although it seems to border on a motherly “he’s kind of pathetic it makes me want to take care of him” sort of way. This also seems like a relatively natural progression for the character based on the original storyline.

This also sets up a potential Ukyo/Ryouga pairing once Ranma and Akane finally admit to their lust for one another. Being an old-school fan of the Ukyo/Ryouga pairing, I’m down with that.

More to come later, since this has become longer than anticipated. Until then, watch some long-haired Akane getting down with the yappapa. And yeah, Akane’s hair should totally stay long for a longer amount of time in said remake. She always looked better with long hair, but having her hair get cut was a fairly dramatic moment. Just have it happen later.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Synopsis:

Set in some unknown future, most of human civilization has been destroyed by a environmental catastrophe called the Seven Days of Fire that not only almost destroys humanity, but also the Earth’s original ecosystem. Rebuilding itself, the Earth develops the Sea of Decay which is literally a growing jungle of giant plants, insects, and fungi. But the new natural self preservation, including the air within the Sea of Decay is lethally toxic. Among the scattered surviving human settlements is the Valley of the Wind and one of it’s leaders Princess Nausicaa that seeks to bring peace between the warring human settlements and the insects. But when a plane crash lands nearby and the cargo is discovered to be carrying an embryo of one of the God Warriors from the Seven Days of Fire is found and Nausicaa realizes that things are about to go from bad, to worse.

Reviewer: Endosanity
Number of episodes watched: 1 (it’s a movie)

Review:

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is yet another story about what could happen if the Earth’s own natural habitat is destroyed by the humans that live there but at least Nausicaa does this in a sci-fi setting that manages to keep things interesting with it’s own unique vision of the future. When you think about the age of the film (1984), it’s depiction of the barren wasteland that humanity struggles to survive in is very well portrayed in a way that has never really been presented before. Not only does this movie entertain you but also shows you that even after we’ve destroyed our own planet that humans are still fighting amongst each other for who gains control of nothing, which not only makes you think but is also showing you how pathetically sad humans can be. What makes it worse is when the story makes you realize that Mother Earth is trying to rebuild her environment for humans through “tough love” by using a lethal atmosphere and and deadly creatures to keep us away while she is at work, but humanity still seeks to destroy her opposition and each other through our own stupidity instead of leaving nature to take it’s course. Princess Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind inhabitants do realize this and attempt to make everyone understand but there are those who feel her message is all for naught and think that what the human race doesn’t understand… should be destroyed. A movie and bonds with it’s audience through a presentation of disparity and a warning of what life could be in things to come, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind may end on a positive note but also manages to implant it’s haunting vision of the future into the back of your mind.

The only real downside though is that the cast of characters that are devoid of any individuality making them completely uninteresting, but, luckily enough the plot tells a tale that is enough to keep your attention through the entire show even with it’s environmentalist theme. The animation is a little on the dated side and the plot sounds like it would only appeal to hippies, once you watch Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind you realize just how far this anime movie was ahead of it’s time. Worth a one time viewing. But y’know, with all those giant insects roaming around I couldn’t help but keep thinking that I wanted a giant boot to come down and squash everything.

Kiss x Sis OAV 2 ; My two favorite anime step-sisters are back and ready for more action.

This episode begins with Keita and his two sisters celebrating at a karaoke parlor, and it just so happens that his sisters have gone to the trouble of making Santa outfits for the occasion.  The reason that the sisters give for the occasion is shake Keita out of his depressed emo mood. After the sisters take a break from singing they try to get Keita to sing.

After drinking some Oolong tea, Riko asks Keita if the tea tastes strange, then Riko suddenly passes out.  Ako then realizes that this must be the adult Oolong tea, and concludes that Riko must be really bad with alcohol. Ako tells Keita that they might as well just enjoy the tea, and after they’re both nice and toasty Ako tells Keita that she needs to pee. Keita tells her to just hurry up and go, but Ako’s legs won’t work properly. Keita offers to help Ako to the bathroom but she would rather crawl, so she crawls off to the bathroom.

Just as Ako crawls off to the bathroom Riko finally wakes up and tells K that she also has to go to the bathroom but can’t hold it in. Well, Keita tells her the owners will be mad if she goes inside the room, then Riko and asks Keita if he’ll drink it? Well, Riko settles for asking Keita for an empty plastic bottle. Well, he says it’s impossible so Riko says she’ll just go here, and she says she hasn’t wet her pants since preschool.

Keita decides it’s better to carry Riko to the bathroom instead of letting her pee her pants, and when Ako sees Keita carrying Riko past her she envies the princess carrying style.

When Keita finally gets Riko inside the bathroom she plays up her intoxication getting Keita to remove her panties so she can pee, and once they’re off she tells Keita that is thing has gotten big. Keita finally gets her to go and when she’s finished she gets on Keita’s case for staying in the bathroom when he could have left and as punishment she tells him to hurry up and wipe her off.

Keita starts to get really flustered and confused and she asks him what the problem is since she’s his sister. Riko tells him to remember back to when they were young and he was still pissing his bed and Riko and Ako had to take care of him, so he can return the favor this one time. Keita asks Riko if she’s sure it’s just pee down there and she tells him to hurry up and find out. Just as Keita begins to wipe her off Ako knocks on the door wondering what’s taking so long, breaking Riko’s moment of exaltation.

As Keita is leaving the bathroom Ako gets a glimpse of the situation and Keita says she has it wrong but one glance at Keita’s pants confirms her worries and Riko says it’s exactly what it looks like.

Back inside the karaoke booth, Riko’s fallen back asleep with a very nice smile on her face. Well, Keita is bummed out because Ako thinks something happened inside the bathroom so he starts to drinks heavily and Ako apologies to him. Then Keita places Ako on his lap and tells her to share some of her cheerfulness with him by mouth to mouth. After a few seconds thought, Ako thinks it’ll be alright for her to enjoy Keita by herself, and after a few minutes of kissing Keita wants Ako to work on his tongue then he returns the for her.  After a little while, the drunken Keita pulls Ako’s top down and tells her that he’s going to see how excited she gets when doing these things and proceeds to go to work on her twin peaks. He starts off a bit rough, but after a hint from Ako he gets gentle and asks her if it’s OK for a brother and sister to do this?

Well, Ako tells Keita that she’s a sister Santa for now. Keita eventually works the rest of Ako’s outfit off and is about to go to work on her lower half when she gets a telephone call from the front desk saying that their time is up in five minutes, Ako asks for an extension, but the front desk tells her they’re booked solid so they have to leave, and when Ako looks over to Keita she sees that he’s asleep.

When Ako returns to Keita’s side she bops him upside the head for falling asleep then she heads to the bathroom to take care of a moisture problem lamenting that if she knew it would have turned out like this she would have brought some spares.

On their way back from the karaoke bar, Keita tells his sisters that he doesn’t remember a thing but he doesn’t feel stressed out anymore, and he thanks them for their help. As the episode ends, Ako and Riko bicker over what the other sister did with Keita, and Ako is still dealing with her moisture problem. Well, that’s all for this OAV.

Well, I’ve always liked Kiss x Sis because of its playful execution of the wincest trope. While Keita relationship with Ako and Riko isn’t truly incest because they’re his step-sisters and it’s about as close as you can get without stepping into the creepy territory of Koi Kaze (real incest). In the previous two episodes of Kiss x Sis I’ve ripped on Keita for his lack of a man card, his parents say go for it, his step-sisters say go for it, his male classmates say go for it, even his own body says of it, and what does he do? Nothing. Well, in this episode he finally decides have a little taste of forbidden fruit, but only because he’s drunk, and to make matters worse, he doesn’t remember anything. I almost wish that I could swap Keita with Touya (the scumbag from White Album), Keita would make a better boyfriend for the pure and virginal Yuki, and Touya would have already passed his twin entrance exams and both Ako and Riko would be worring about buying diapers instead of making cosplay outfits. Eventhough I hate weak male leads in harem and love triangle anime, I like both Riko and Ako because those girls know what they want and they actualy go for it. What makes Kiss x Sis frustrating is that Ako and Riko offer Keita the perfect male fanstay of hot willing girls and he doesn’t have the sack to take advantage of a situation that could never exist but you wished it could.
